Nvidia is in talks with insurers to shift a portion of the credit risk tied to AI chip financing onto insurance companies and other alternative investors, broadening the funding base for its AI infrastructure financing ecosystem. The most prominent proposal would cover loan losses for "neocloud" providers—emerging cloud service companies. If a borrower defaults and the sale of pledged Nvidia chips falls short of the outstanding loan, insurers would cover the shortfall. Nvidia is working with reinsurance broker Howden Re on the structure and has shared chip depreciation data with at least one insurer. The move follows last month's announcement of a partnership with Goldman Sachs, Apollo Global Management, and four other Wall Street institutions targeting more than $500 billion in third-party capital for AI infrastructure. Nvidia's own support takes the form of per-project residual value guarantees capped at 25% of the residual value gap per transaction. Meanwhile, Anthropic's signed compute contracts now exceed $180 billion, and Nvidia's total supply commitments surged 130% quarter-over-quarter to $279 billion.

Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) is in discussions with insurance companies to transfer a portion of the credit risk associated with AI chip financing to insurers and other alternative investors, as it seeks to further broaden the funding sources for its AI infrastructure financing ecosystem. According to a Financial Times report citing people familiar with the matter, the discussions remain at an early stage and may not ultimately result in a deal.

The move represents another step in financial innovation for Nvidia, following last month's launch of a $500 billion AI compute financing platform in partnership with Wall St
